JANUARY KEY POINTS
SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
- Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during January 2013 (532,000 movements) increased 0.4% compared with December 2012 (529,700 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.7% in November and 0.5% in December 2012. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 6.2% higher than in January 2012.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During January 2013, short-term visitor arrivals (525,500 movements) recorded a decrease of 2.3% compared with December 2012 (538,000 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.7% in November and 2.0% in December 2012.
- Original estimates: There were 495,000 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in January 2013.
SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES FROM AUSTRALIA
- Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during January 2013 (691,800 movements) increased 0.2% compared with December 2012 (690,300 movements). This follows monthly increases of 0.2% in both November and December 2012. The current trend estimate for departures is 4.6% higher than in January 2012.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During January 2013, short-term resident departures (689,300 movements) decreased 0.8% compared with December 2012 (694,900 movements). This followed monthly increases of 1.7% in November 2012 and 0.5% in December 2012.
- Original estimates: There were 604,700 short-term resident departures from Australia during January 2013.
